Many of today’s Wedding customs began in the Victorian era, including the “Something Old, Something New…” adage and the tradition of Brides and Grooms not seeing one another until the Ceremony. The Lord Thompson Manor sees the Victorian Era as a rich source of inspiration for Weddings, whether or not a Bride and Groom care to commit to the Victorian Era as a theme.

Brides who enjoy the romance of Victorian dress can allow it to influence their Wedding Attire to any level, from finding a vintage gown from the era to simply choosing one with a corset-like top. Brides and their Bridesmaids can also add a touch of the Victorian era to their ensembles with lace gloves and parasols.

The Victorian era offers Brides a beautiful, timeless color palette: pastel pinks, yellows and oranges; spring green; azure; lavender and cream are all good Wedding Colors. There are many flower possibilities for this scheme, including roses, pansies, violets, orange blossoms, baby’s breath, jasmine, lilies, and even magnolia blossoms. Victorian colors could work especially well for Wedding Stationery or Wedding Attire when juxtaposed with a deep charcoal shade.

There are countless other little Victorian touches a Wedding could have. The Ceremony and Cocktail Hour could be set to Chopin, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, and other composers of the time. Décor could feature lace, doilies, bows and candelabras. The Bride and Groom could give away tea cups for their Wedding Favors, paired with either tea or a candle. Finally, the Wedding Stationery or Table Numbers could feature romantic quotes from authors of the period, such as Jane Austen and the Bronte sister—for example, “While I breathe and think, I must love him,” from Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre.

Weekend after weekend, the Lord Thompson Manor produces perfect wedding after perfect wedding, and we’ve recently noticed a recurring theme: charity. Today’s modern, socially conscientious brides and grooms have been adding a new dimension to the celebration of their union by sharing their love and joy with the less fortunate. There are many ways for this to happen, but our favorite involves the wedding favors.

Lord Thompson Manor keeps a list of relevant charities to help the couple decide to which one (or ones) they want to give. The ceremony glides by with perfection, the reception goes off without a hitch, and as the party winds down, each guest collects his or her favor: a card indicating that the bride and groom have donated to a charity in the guest’s name. Even if the guest has no personal connection to the charity, he or she can still benefit from the warm feeling of contributing to the greater good.

However, couples here at the Manor tend to choose charities relevant to their families. In such cases, the wedding guests are moved on a more personal level by the bride and groom’s thoughtfulness. All at once, a happy couple can satisfy their desire to donate, bring yet another warmhearted smile to every guest’s face, and reach out beyond their personal sphere to assist a worthy cause. All in all, everyone goes home happy—the bride and groom for supporting a charity, the guests and the Manor for assisting, and the recipients of philanthropy for the assistance. After all, what’s a perfect wedding without a happy ending?

The tradition of married men wearing Wedding Rings wasn’t common until the Equal Rights Movement in the 1960’s, but since the custom has grown in popularity, the options have multiplied as well. The Lord Thompson Manor recommends that couples discuss their preferences before purchasing their Wedding Bands. There are two things in particular they should keep in mind: the metals that rings are made of, and the possibility of precious stones.

Wedding Bands are frequently solid metals, but it has recently been popular for both women’s and men’s Wedding Rings to incorporate precious stones as well. In men’s rings, the focus still tends to be on the metallic band; the stones tend to be small. Some Grooms prefer Wedding Bands with just a few small stones flush set at even intervals around the center of the band; the stones are set in tapered holes in the band, and their surfaces are in line with the precious metal. Others opt for a bit more pizzazz, and choose rings with channel set stones. These stones are lined up within the band, flush to it, all the way around, with thin lines of the precious metal along the top and bottom to hold them in place.

Bridal Headbands

Some of the Lord Thompson Manor’s beautiful Brides adorn their Wedding hairstyles with veils, tiaras, and sometimes, flowers. However, many have been embracing the recent, popular trend of Bridal headbands and head wraps. These accessories can add the same sparkle as tiaras (and can make a Bride feel just as much the beautiful princess), but with a more down-to-earth, fun loving feel that a Bride can wear to other special occa

Wedding Dress Silhouettes

The Lord Thompson Manor works with Bride after Bride to create personalized dream Weddings; we specialize in perfection, and we know what it takes to make our Brides happy. Time and time again, we find that the most important key to a Bride’s satisfaction is her Wedding Dress. There are numerous decisions for a Bride to make when it comes to her dress—such as what fabric it should be made of, which neckline would flatter her the most, and how long the sleeves ought to be—but the first step is to decide which silhouette she wants.

Lord Thompson Manor suggests that a Bride drop her Wedding Dress off during the week before her Wedding. It can hang and aerate in her suite, so when she is ready for it, it will fit, flow and/or cling exactly as it ought to. The Lord Thompson Manor is also fully equipped to rid the dress of last-minute wrinkles, or treat any stains or tears that might unfortunately happen during the Wedding Ceremony or Reception.

Wedding Inspiration in Nature

At the Lord Thompson Manor, every Bride has a unique creative concept for her Wedding, and we wholeheartedly commit to each one’s individual style. Brides draw inspiration for their Weddings from all sorts of sources, but one of the Lord Thompson Manor’s favorite muses is Mother Nature.

Weddings at the Lord Thompson Manor are always surrounded by Nature. Our precisely manicured grounds provide the perfect backdrop for outdoor Weddings. Even rainy days cannot detract from Nature’s beautiful contributions to our Weddings: our prolific windows provide perfect views.

Handling Candle Wax

At the Lord Thompson Manor, we value the warm, romantic glow of candlelight, and utilize it for every Wedding. We use clean white candles of all shapes and sizes—pillar candles on mantles and in lanterns outside; ball candles in tall stemmed crystal holders; tapers on candelabras; and votives on tables, end tables, sideboards, stairs and other surfaces. Naturally, we have figured out how to quickly and thoroughly clean candle wax from tables, carpets and all sorts of surfaces. For our readers who love candle light but loathe candle wax, we’re willing to share our secret methods.

Wedding Reception Flowers and Decorating Accents

Lord Thompson Manor Bridal Bouquet and Ceremony Flowers By Rose Smith.

Once the bridal bouquet and ceremony flowers are chosen, it’s time to focus on what type of wedding reception flowers you may use. You’ll need to look at food tables, guest tables, the head table, as well as decorating accents throughout the room. However, you don’t need to use only flowers. There are a wide variety of choices of greenery that can also be put to good use.

First, you must understand where larger flower arrangements are appropriate… and where they are not. The more elaborate floral arrangements can be used on buffet tables, cake tables, on stands near the entrance and staircases, and close to the band or DJ. These types of arrangements, however, should not be used on guest tables or the head table as they are too large and will block the view of the guests.

Table centerpieces created from flowers should be kept low and small. Make sure they compliment the overall color scheme and theme of the wedding. Nor do all the table centerpieces have to be identical. A unique and interesting idea would be to use a variation in the types of flowers, yet with the same color scheme.

Small bud vases are best used on guest tables. A great combination wedding favor and table centerpiece idea would be to cluster small vases with a single flower in each. After the wedding, the guests can take home one of the bud vases as a wedding favor.

If you can not afford to use many large floral arrangements, choose 2 or 3 for the buffet tables or other key area and decorate the rest of the room using balloon bouquets, tree branches with twinkling lights or rented palm and/or ficus trees.

Edible bouquets are also very popular for table centerpieces. Spun sugar sculptures, fruit baskets and miniature tiered wedding cakes also serve a dual purpose as a table decoration and wedding favors… or as dessert at the end of the meal.

Here are a few more wedding “flower” bouquet ideas you may want to consider:
# Wedding wishes cookie bouquets

# Milk chocolate long Stem roses candy bouquets

# Twinkle pop/lollipop bouquets

As you can see, you can incorporate many “floral” bouquet ideas into your wedding scheme without breaking the bank. Large floral arrangements are beautiful to look at, but they can also be very expensive. Consider some of the alternatives to help save money, yet still create unique flower arrangements that will delight your guests.
